SUMMARY:Stem Cell Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The Symposium is coordinated by the University of Wisconsin Madison Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine Center and the BTC Institute. Cell competition is an emerging field of stem cell biology that has important implications in healthy aging and disease states. To describe recent advances\, this symposium will bring together leading researchers studying competition between stem cells and competitive interactions within their niche. The presentations will highlight the approaches to evaluate molecular mechanisms responsible for selective expansion and elimination of cell populations during development\, reprogramming and disease.\n\n\n\nHIGHLIGHTED ISSUES:\n\n	Clonal hematopoiesis\n	Cell competition during reprogramming\n	Competitive elimination of stem cells\n	Molecular sensors of cell competition\n\nCONFIRMED PRESENTERS\n\nErika Bach\, Ph.D. \, Associate Professor\, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology\, NYU Grossman School of Medicine\, NYU Langone Health\, New York\, NY\n\n\n\nGrant Challen\, Ph.D.\, Assistant Professor\, Internal Medicine/Oncology\, Roy and Diana Vagelos Division of Biology & Biomedical Sciences\, Washington University in St. Louis\, St. Louis\, MO\n\n\n\nDarcie Moore\, Ph.D.\, Assistant Professor\, Department of Neuroscience\, School of Medicine and Public Health\, University of Wisconsin Madison\, Madison\, WI\n\n\n\nTristan Rodriguez\, Ph.D.\, Faculty of Medicine\, National Heart & Lung Institute\, Imperial College London\, United Kingdom\n\n\n\nNika Shakiba\, Ph.D.\, Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief\, Advice to a Scientist\; Assistant Professor\, School of Biomedical Engineering\, Faculty of Applied Science and Faculty of Medicine\, School of Biomedical Engineering\, The University of British Columbia\, Vancouver\, Canada\n\n\n\nOwen Tamplin\, Ph.D.\, Assistant Professor\, Cell and Regenerative Biology. University of Wisconsin Madison\, Madison\, WI\n\n\n\nKenneth Walsh\, Ph.D.\, Internal Medicine\, School of Medicine\, University of Virginia\, Charlottesville\, VA\n\n\n\nThomas P. Zwaka\, M.D.\, Ph.D.\, Professor\, Cell\, Developmental & Regenerative Biology\, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai\, New York\, NY\n\n\n\nPARTICIPATION DETAILS:\n\nWE ARE PLANNING FOR A HYBRID EVENT BUT WILL CONVERT TO A 100% VIRTUAL FORMAT IF IT BECOMES NECESSARY TO DO SO. PROOF OF VACCINATION WILL BE REQUIRED AT CHECK-IN FOR ALL IN-PERSON ATTENDEES. THE HYBRID OPTION WILL INCLUDE LIVE BROADCAST OF ALL TALKS\, ALSO INCLUDING A RAPID FIRE POSTER SESSION PRESENTED BY CONTEST FINALISTS [SEE BELOW FOR CONTEST DETAILS]. THESE TALKS WILL NOT BE RECORDED.\n\nThe associated fees are the same for all formats: $120 standard fee\; $60 discounted fee for students and post-doctoral researchers.
